Unable to load firmware on a batch of IPMC

Hello

We have several IPMC (9 of them) that fail to load our ATLAS LAr firmware
The commands ‘ipmitool -I lan -H $SHM_IP -U “” -P “” -t $TARGET hpm upgrade $FILE_PATH force’ succeed and ‘ipmitool -I lan -H “$IP” -U “” -P “” hpm activate’ don t show much logs and after reboot the old firmware is still used. This is from a batch of “new” IPMC never loaded with our firmware. Some from the same batch succeed to load.
Is is something already observed ? Is there a recovery procedure ?
I put in the end the logs of the upgrade command and activate (One following the other as n the same script)
Thanks
Etienne FORTIN

Hi Etienne,

Just to understand: do you have other cards where loading of the same LAr firmware works? So, nine out of how many do not work?

And, I can see that your ipmitool hpm upgrade command goes via the shelf manager, while the ipmitool hpm activate uses the IP address (I assume from the IPMC?). Are you sure that the second command is being received? Is the debug output of the IPMC connected, and could you send the log of it?

Cheers,
Ralf

Hi
Yes this firmware works on several IPMC , We tried on 12 and 3 of them works

Sorry copied the wrong command for the activate (We have a script capable of both) I made:
ipmitool -I lan -H $SHM_IP -U “” -P “” -t $TARGET hpm activate

The firmware and our script is working fine on a “good” ipmc if plugged in the same board in the same slot

We will redo the test with the IPMC output connected

Hi Etienne,

I had the same issue with the automatic rollback on the IPMC when flashing it for the first time. I solved it by adding “norollback” to the activate command.
ipmitool -I lan -H $SHM_IP -U “” -P “” -t $TARGET hpm activate norollback

Maybe it helps you as well.
Cheers,
Maximilian

Dear Maximilian,

Well spotted!
The “norollback” options was already mentioned several times before as being necessary.

Hope, this solves Etienne’s problem.

Cheers,
Ralf

Hello Maximilianm, Ralf
With the norollback option it works !
Thanks a lot for your help
Etienne

Hi Etienne,

Very good news! Thanks for the feedback.
