Broken links on the CERN IPMC website

Dear CERM IPMC support team,

I am trying to access the links in the documentation section of the https://cern-ipmc.web.cern.ch/doc website and they redirect me to my personal CERNBox folder.

The CERNBox link also redirects me to my personal CERNBox.

At the same time, I can’t seem to be able to find the source files of the firmware. Is it possible to provide me with a link the source code?

Cheers,
Vasilis

Dear Vasilis,

For the links to the CERN IPMC documentation this is probably due to the migration of the e-groups to the new GMS. I cannot check cernbox-project-ep-ese-xtca-readers myself right now although I am the administrator

As for the CERN IPMC user firmware you should be able to see it at the following link: https://gitlab.cern.ch/ep-ese-be-xtca/ipmc-user-firmware

Please let me know if that works for you.

Cheers,

Ralf.

Dear Ralf,

Thanks for your answer!!!

Are there any documents on the core software of the IPMC? Because the link you provided looks more like some user configuration or I am missing something.

Cheers,
Vasilis

Hi Vasilis,

That is the whole point: the user is supposed to provide configuration for the user-specific parts, and does not need to know the details of the core software, which is protected by an NDA.

A number of hardware drivers do already exist and adding a new one is also described in that GitLab project. Adding sensors is achieved using the XML file.

I attach the technical overview and sensor guide from the CERN IPMC documentation you were not able to read.

Is there anything else that you would need?

Cheers,

Ralf.

Hi Ralf,

Thank you very much for the information and the documentation, I will have a look!

Cheers,
Vasilis

Hi Vasilis,

May I ask you for which project you are interested in looking into the use of the CERN IPMC?

Do you have a CERN IPMC or do you intend to buy one?

Cheers,

Ralf.

Hi Ralf,

I am working on the ATS SoC and we are currently evaluating some solutions (along with CRAZy as you might remember) for remote management.

We stumbled upon OpenIPMC, CERN-IPMC & OpenBMC and we are trying to see what are those what they offer and how they are compared with CRAZy.

In case you need anything else, feel free to ask!

Cheers,
Vasilis

Hello Vasilis,

can you please try to open the following link on cernbox? This folder contain the documentation and every CEN user should have access.

cheers,

Stefan

https://cernbox.cern.ch/files/spaces/eos/project/c/cern-ipmc-support/public

Hi Vasilis,

Thanks. Of course, I do remember the ATS SoM and CRAZy

I was just wondering. The CERN IPMC is a mezzanine card intended to be used on an ATCA blade, not on another mezzanine card.

In addition, we are currently planning another (the last?) production of cards to fulfil the needs for the LHC experiments (ATLAS and CMS). If you really needed CERN IPMCs for ATS, it would be good to know this very soon.

Cheers,

Ralf.

Hi Ralf,

Thanks again for the information! CRAZy has a catchy name, it’s difficult to forget!!!

Thanks also for the heads up on the timeline. I will provide information to the decision-makers for this project and in case they might contact you, I guess.

Cheers,
Vasilis

Hello Ralf,

the IPMC documentation is on the cern-ipmc-support cernbox space. The public folder, which contains the documentation, is marked as readable by everyone with a CERN account:

https://cernbox.cern.ch/files/spaces/eos/project/c/cern-ipmc-support/public

I also asked Tigran and he managed to open the documentation links without any problem. So I don’t think this is an e-groups issue but rather an issue with the browser/cernbox client of Vasilis.

cheers,

Stefan

Hi Stefan, hi Tigran,

Thanks for checking.

Maybe Vasilis was not logged in?

Cheers

Ralf.

Hello Ralf,

this is also possible. Although he said he was redirected to his cernbox home page, so maybe not. Anyway, ask him to try again. I also already sent him the direct link to the cernbox folder.

cheers,

Stefan

Hi Vasilis,

Can I come back to your original question about the access to the documents? My colleagues are telling me that the folder with the document should be accessible for anyone with a valid CERN account. Could you please check if you are logged in and if you can access the CERN IPMC documentation from CERNbox? Sometimes, I have seen you need to call it twice for the log in with CERNbox to be taken into account correctly …

Cheers,

Ralf.

Hi Ralf,

I tried myself and from a colleagues account and it doesn’t “work”. More specifically, from the links provided in the Documentation:

1) Redirects to personal CERNBox: Technical Overview, Hardware Guide v1.0, Pinout and Mapping, Sensor Guide, CERN-IPMC User Guide (v4.0), CERN-IPMC User Guide (v1.0)
2) Links that fail to open: OEM commands and GPIOs
3) Properly working: Firmware customization (XML), Release note v1.3, CERN xTCA meetings (indico).

Let me know if you need anything else!

Cheers,
Vasilis

Dear Vasilis,

Thanks a lot for your effort! And the detailed information. Looks like CERNbox has some problems with the authentication. We are looking into this.

Cheers,
Ralf.

Hi Ralf,

No problem at all!

Cheers,
Vasilis

PS: correctly I should have written “authorization”, since it must have authenticated you …

Cheers,
Ralf.
